Get Checked & Other News
This fortnight has been a big one. In fact, the whole month of May was a rollercoaster! Maybe I need to check my horoscope for the month before saying yes to a hundred things again next month.
Do you find it hard to say no?
There is something I'd like to note before you go through this fortnights articles,
GET YOUR SKIN CHECKED.
I had a skin check just recently and I didn't get a great result from a biopsy. If I had of kept letting my skin check fall to the bottom of my to-do list, my severe pre-melanoma would have developed into a full melanoma. Please book in to see someone. You can have your skin checked at a skin clinic, dermatologist or at your local GP (although I would always recommend booking in to see a specialist or getting a referral from your GP).
I hope you enjoy the recommendations this week. They cover a few different topics this time!
Watch: Dead To Me - Netflix
The dark comedy premiered this month and I know someone else has already told you to watch this. The first episode starts off slowly but hooks you at the end. I watched the whole series over the weekend. I hope there is a second season to develop the characters more!
Watch: ‘Aladdin’ Review: This Is Not What You Wished For
If you've watched Aladdin, I found this review by The New York Times to be interesting. It voiced the weird feelings I had while watching it. I so desperately wanted to love the movie but it just wasn't quite what I expected. I feel as though they could have done so much more with the whole thing.
The movie is in the top three highest-grossing openings so far in 2019 though. Beaten by only Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame.
The Most Interesting Things I Read This Week
Article: Alabama’s Abortion Ban Is Already Being Challenged in Court
By Claire Lampen
This one is a bit complicated, but I've linked a podcast that really helped me understand this whole thing and why it's a huge legal battle, besides being absolutely unbelievable.
Roe v. Wade, 410 U.S. 113 (1973), was a decision of the U.S. Supreme Court, ruling that abortion came under the Fourteenth Amendments "right to privacy" and parts of other amendments. Meaning that it protected a pregnant woman's liberty to choose whether or not to have an abortion. Because the clause is based on a number of other amendments, it may be difficult for it to stand in court again today.
"Alabama’s goal is to pick a legal fight that will rise all the way up the ranks to the Supreme Court in an attempt to undermine the central principle of Roe v. Wade, which has kept abortion legal up to 24 weeks (the point at which a fetus is considered viable outside the womb) since 1973". The states have their own ways of limiting access to abortions, but by taking it to the Supreme Court, this could mean changes for the legality of the procedure nationwide.

Article: Fashion week disaster: Can MBFWA survive as the number of offsite shows continues to rise?
Fashion week feels like forever ago now but I found this story a little while ago and thought it was an interesting perspective. Bianca O'Neil recounts her experience at MBFWA this year and how it was a little odd this time around. The increase in offsite shows might have lead to a decrease in the quality of shows and the professional industry experts who attend them.
