My Fashion Week Looks for 2017
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia - My week of looks
Here's my complete post of looks from Australian Fashion Week for 2017.
This was my second year at Fashion Week! Last year I attended as an Official Blogger for the first time, and I was so nervous! I didn't really know what to expect and I felt like I floated through the week a little bit.
This year I went so much more prepared and engaged with the whole event and I'm so glad I went. I took advantage of some amazing opportunities and created some great opportunities too! This year I went on behalf of Izzy Wears Blog, but also on behalf of my actual real life job too! I spent the week creating content photographing attendees, celebs, models, taking notes, videoing and writing articles.
It was wonderful going to Fashion Week with a cemented purpose, a reason more than just my blog to attend. I love writing for my blog but we all know that motivation can be hard to uncover after a huge week! I always learn and grow from events that push me out of my comfort zone and I take away experiences that always make the next time better!
This year I met so many new people, made so many friends and industry connections. I feel so full of passion and love for the Fashion Industry, and I'm so grateful I got to share my week with like-minded people! Plus meeting a few celebrities and models doesn't hurt - But meeting my Australian blogging icons was definitely the best! (Especially when they complimented my jacket!)
This year I tried to experiment a little more with my outfits, mix in a few of the most recent trends and of course, wear some red! I collaborated with some amazing brands and Australian labels this year to put together these outfits, I'm so grateful and appreciative that I got to wear these labels during the biggest week of Australian Fashion!
Monday was a morning of picking up clothes, hassling the post office for my deliveries, finding food and just generally running around Sydney. I finally got to brush my hair and I eventually made it to Carriageworks!
I loved putting this outfit together. Normally I'm not very brave with my outfits and I like to blend in, I like to wear something practical and comfortable. I love these four pieces individually and wearing them all at once was so satisfying! Putting together this pirate-esque, bustiered, flared pant and laced up sleeve look was definitely a step out of my usual outfit choice.
Fashion Week is about stepping out of that comfort zone, experimenting and seeing what you can get away with. I haven't layered a blouse shirt with anything yet so this was a great opportunity to give it a go! I honestly didn't think a magazine would photograph my pirate outfit - But they loved it!
On Monday Morning I headed to the Sass & Bide head office to pick up and style a look to wear to Sass & Bide's 'Fiesta Barcelona' runway that evening. This was an amazing opportunity to wear an Australian brand that has been part of almost everyone's wardrobe! It was an exciting night to celebrate their first show at MBFWA in 14 years. Full runway show review coming soon!
This was a pretty out-there look for me. I've recently purchased my own red leather jacket so I instantly knew I had to wear this Sass & Bide one! The outfit was flared slit pants, a red bustier top and the statement red leather jacket. Paired together it looked like a bit like a dress, so later I wore the pants with a crop and boots to an evening show. They were so fun to wear!
I had to wear millennial pink to Fashion Week. This is the first year I've ever really worn this colour and felt comfortable doing so. It's been weird yet wonderful wearing pink - for someone who hates wearing pink.
I wore this look to the C/MEO Collective show, it was absolutely beautiful and one of my favourite shows of the week! After the show, Fashion Stylist Donny Galella interviewed myself and Jo from The Glam Whisperer Blog on our favourite shows! (Yeah my words were probably cut because I didn't say Dion Lee haha! We're at 1:00)
Something I didn't do last year was approach people I admired! This year I definitely made an effort to. change that. I met a few YouTubers, models and Instagram influencers that I never thought I'd ever see in real life, let alone have a conversation with! Everyone was so lovely.
This dress is from the recent Arnhem collection, Carolina Rose. I am in love with it. This was another super bold choice for me and I'm so glad I did it. Not to mention I was super comfortable all morning and felt like a princess. The best bonus was that Cartia and Sammy loved the dress too (Thanks so much Nikki hehe!).
Also, these are the most comfortable boots I own! Now that I'm back in Perth and back at work, I wear them everyday and they definitely make me a happy girl!
This was one of the most complimented looks of my Fashion Week! This dress was fun, comfortable and perfectly detailed. I didn't need any crazy accessories or a spotlight for this dress to be noticed! If you're a regular reader, you're going to be seeing this dress a lot!
For me, one of the most important parts of fashion week this year was to experiment with my outfits but stay true to my own style and what I liked! A lot of bloggers and Australian celebs in the fashion industry scene seem to find this pretty difficult!
I'm going to be completely transparent about all of these looks, most pieces were gifted to me. I wasn't paid to wear a specific brand, I haven't plugged anyone here for specific affiliate work or as an ambassador. I contacted all of these brands. I sent emails, I spoke to PR and social media teams. It wasn't the easiest of things to do, and it took a lot of courage for me to approach people I've never spoken with, but completely admired everything they did!
A few brands contacted me too which was really lovely. It's so nice when people acknowledge that you're doing a great job and they want you on board. I'm not sure if this will make sense to anyone who's not a blogger!
I styled these outfits myself with pieces I already owned and loved. That made me feel really good all week, the fact that I worked with labels and brands that I look up to and admire because of quality and design. I couldn't be any more grateful for the opportunities the rand's teams have given me to wear their pieces. You're definitely going to see me outfit repeating some of these!
