My Everyday Makeup Routine
These products are my best friends in the morning. I don't use all of these every day but they are definitely used on a regular basis!
Just quickly, this post is not sponsored in any way at all. I absolutely love my make-up collection and I'm hoping to post some more beauty on Fawn Journal.
I would absolutely love to know if you've used one of my holy grail products and what you thought of it - or even suggest something better in the comments section below!
I've quickly gone over my holy grail products and included links so you can check them out. I've mentioned a few main things about each product that I've found through using them - Hopefully it's helpful for finding your own holy grail products!
Firstly, priming and foundation. I use the Mecca Cosmetica Soft Focus Smoothing Primer
- I've tried primers previously for a smooth pore filling look (The benefit porefessional didn't work at all for me!) and this Mecca primer is breathable, it doesn't break out my skin and works well with my foundations. Definitely worth the price, I can use one pump of it on my face and my makeup lasts the entire day. Often I use a moisturiser around five minutes before my primer too.
I have loved using the Estee Lauder Double Wear for a few years now. I'm shade Cool Bone - or Tawny when I'm tanned. I always get a strange look from the sales person when I buy them together!
To be honest, it did break me out when I first started using it, and I did have a short time later on where it just stopped working for my skin and I changed back to my old faithful L'Oreal True Match.
Without moisturiser, primer or a dewy foundation base underneath, Double Wear does seem to go patchy on dryer areas. Wearing a minimal amount of Double Wear on dry areas works a lot better as coverage than trying to conceal them. It works for evening the skin tone and not covering up the Sahara Desert. I have found though that I can have a bad break out for whatever reason (Probably from eating cheese), and when I'm wearing Estee Lauder you can barely see it's there.
Other than that, it has been smooth sailing with my Estee Lauder - I don't even need to wear concealer anymore. It's a bit pricey if you're used to drugstore foundation, but it's definitely one of the cheaper high-end foundations! For me, it's worth $50 a bottle - it lasts me six to eight months.
Skipping steps in my makeup routine and making things faster and easier is my favourite thing to do. A lot of the time I start work at 5am in the morning, or I'm just generally rushing because that's who I am as a person. I started using the Infallible 24 Hr Matte foundation by L'Oreal a while ago and found it didn't work at all but recently I've tried it again - This time I used the tube version. They have definitely changed the formula! Now I wear this daily as a base, and use my Estee Lauder over problem areas plus on my nose and chin. The Infallible foundation definitely feels lighter than the full coverage Double Wear and it's probably a little kinder to my skin for everyday use.
Lastly for my base, I live by the Australis Fresh and Flawless powder. I've heard people compare it to MAC, personally I've never compared the two but it's definitely in my top 5 products ever to exist. I love this powder so much that often it's the only thing I take in my bag for touch ups - I invest way too much trust in this product because of the good coverage!
I move on from base to brows, using the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow Pomade in Blonde or sometimes Taupe with a MAC 208 Angled Brow Brush. The Pomade lasts for so long, I haven't even finished by first little tub and I've been using it for probably a year and a half or something ridiculous. It can dry out quickly though, I normally put a tiny bit of primer on the brush. I was reluctant to buy a $40 eyebrow brush but I was thinking 'treat yo self' at the time. No regrets, it creates such a sharp edge. I get pretty mad when I lose it, nothing else works like it!
Everyday eyes are super simple for me, winged eyeliner with my cheap Face Of Australia Liquid Eyeliner. I could use any eyeliner, but this one is only $9 so it wins every time. For mascara I have used Covergirl Lashblast Volume Mascara since I was about fifteen and I haven't found anything that beats it yet. The brush has rubber bristles, so clumping doesn't happen a lot. I use an older mascara wand to brush through and seperate my lashes.
For a day at work I wouldn't normally wear eyeshadow unless I somehow have the time for blending before breakfast. On a normal day out I choose nudes, browns and oranges to compliment blue eyes. Specifically why I have the Smashbox Blue Eyes Palette. I'm not even sure if you can buy this anymore, but the Smashbox Full Exposure Palette is similar but with more shades! My Stila palette has a few shimmery nudes, and I often use the Morphe 35N palette.
For highlighting I do have a few favourites and many more in my drawers. Benefit Girl Meets Pearl is a golden pink liquid, I apply it when my foundation is still wet. The Jessica Hart Luma is creamy but works over the top of matte foundation or powder. The Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector works every time and I often wear it with an everyday face without contouring or anything too intense sometimes I use it over my NARS Sex Appeal Blush.
That's my daily face done! I do skip steps every now and then and I definitely add more when I'm going out to an important event. I;d love to compare daily routines and learn some tricks from anyone who uses similar products!
