Wedding Guest Style: Your Easy Guide to Dressing Right

Wedding season is coming up in Australia!

I know I love being invited to weddings, celebrating love and spending time with so many people you know under one roof but it can be tricky trying to gauge the vibes or the dress code! You want to look great, not too risqué so you can talk to grandparents, not outshine the bride (impossible anyway!), and comfortable enough to enjoy your time and be able to sit down and eat. This is how I break down what to wear to a wedding in Australia.

Decoding Dress Codes

What do dress codes mean? They can be a nightmare to figure out sometimes. They’re like secret signals for what to wear.

Black-tie means go full glam, fancy, long dresses or sharp suits.

Semi-formal or cocktail? Think classy dresses or a bit more of a fun suit.

Casual means comfy, I would say summery? think easy-breezy dresses or laid-back smart for the guys.

Dress for the Season

If it’s forecasted to rain or sunny all day, what you wear should match the weather outside. Spring and summer? Light fabrics and pretty colors. Go for flowy dresses or linen outfits. Autumn and winter? Darker tones and warmer materials. Dark emerald green or even black dresses and sharp dark suits are perfect.

Accessories for a wedding guest?

Shoes and jewellery can pull a look together. Strappy sandals are normally a great shoe option either heeled or not and depending on the season. I wouldn’t wear too many accessories if it’s not your usual thing. You don’t want to be uncomfortable! A necklace or drop earrings can level up your outfit without going overboard.

And that's it! Remember the dress code, match the season, and add a touch of accessories. But most importantly, be yourself and enjoy celebrating the couple's big day!
