Peter Thomas Roth Rose Stem Cell Gel Mask and Cream Review

I’m always searching for ways to keep my skin hydrated. In Perth, the air has very little humidity, meaning it’s always drying so I have dry areas of skin all year round - not the best! Trying new products like moisturisers and masks have been something I’ve always loved to do, the task of hunting down a new favourite has now become a huge collection.

Since Valentine's day, around a month ago, I’ve been using the Peter Thomas Roth Rose Stem Cell Bio-repair Gel Mask and Precious Cream on my face and neck. Both products use plant biotechnology to isolate and replicate rose stem cells. The overall aim of the products is to help improve the look of skin.

First up, the colouring caught my attention. Bright pink in simple packaging. It looks interesting and pretty to sit on my shelf. I have to talk about the smell! It’s a Turkish delight scent in a jar and I am obsessed with Turkish delight already, why not just incorporate it into my skincare too?

I always applied the mask with my fingers and massaged it into my skin, only using a small amount each time - It spreads so easily. The formula is goopy and wet, but not at all difficult to apply. The mask itself is so cooling! Every time I apply I get the same refreshed feeling. I often wear this for 10 minutes before bed, it’s also suggested to wear overnight too. I felt as though my skin was always hydrated and plump after using this mask and I have been wearing it a few evenings a week. I will probably purchase this after I’ve finished my tub!

The tech blends five rose plant stem cells with four rose extracts – Rosa Damascena, Rosa Canina, Rose Hip Seed and Rose Water.

Another plus is that it’s formulated without Parabens, Sulfates and Phthalates.

Smelling like more Turkish delight, the cream is also super moisturising. My skin feels smooth and supple after wearing the cream for a day. I have worn it under my makeup a few times, although I notice the moisturising factors are more apparent when wearing it on its own, without makeup over the top.

It claims to provide deep hydration to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, sagging, dehydration and dullness. These would be long-term effects, while I noticed my skin was hydrated and plump in the short term.

Does Plant Stem Cell Biotechnology work?

A stem cell can become any type of cell, but plant stem cells cannot become human stem cells and vice versa. Plant stem cells, unfortunately, won’t aid it generating new skin cells. These stem cells are extracted and therefore not whole or ‘alive’ either.

There is science that says it doesn’t work, and tests that say it does. Although even without the Rose Stem Cells, I think that the formula is incredibly hydrating and would definitely show a difference in your skin after a number of weeks. Think about applying this every day compared to intermittently applying it or using no moisturiser at all. It’s still beneficial to the surface of the skin, even if the Stem Cell technology might not be everything it’s said to be.

There are a few interesting opinions on the stem cell technology and I enjoyed reading these blogs and articles below to learn a bit more about it.
